Dear PEP Family, Friends, and Colleagues,
This has been
an eventful year for Pin@y Educational Partnerships. Many of our
students are graduating from elementary school, middle school, high
school, and community college. Some of them are actually graduating
from universities too. Many of our teachers are also graduating and
doing great things. As many of you know, although we have a growing
number of Filipina/o students in our schools in the United States, there
is still a lack of Filipina/o Americans educators and administrators.
This is compounded with also being historically underrepresented in the
curriculum both in K-12 schools and institutions of higher education.
These challenges have informed PEP’s purpose.
Over the
past ten years, PEP has grown from a small mentorship program to a
phenomenal educational pipeline that not only serves youth but PEP also
produces critical and community-engaged educators and scholars. We have
seen critical mass of PEP teachers who have been accepted, attending,
and graduated from some of the top credential, masters, and doctoral
programs in the nation. I am currently compiling a list of PEP folks
who are pursing or have received a post-baccalaureate degree in the last
ten years. Just recapping the last couple of years is already
amazing. I just wanted to give a preview (of the last two years) of
what is to come for our ten-year anniversary gala in October, where we
will present a more complete list.
