February 2009
PEP Winter Reveal 2009
OUR LAST WINTER REVEAL 2009
PEP
had an enormously successful Winter Reveal 2009 – we fundraised over
$7,000 with this event! Over 100 guests, volunteers, and PEP members
were present to sample the culinary creations of Chefs Dominic Ainza of
Mercury Lounge, Arnold Pulido of Va de Vi, and John Surla of Galletto
Ristorante. The savory and sweet hors d’oeuvres provided an updated
take on pork sisig, lechon and rice, and cassava bread pudding, among
many other delectable offerings.
The
proceeds received will go back directly into the program, and will help
cover some of the funding cuts to PEP. Thank you to the PEP teachers,
board, and staff who planned and executed the event. Thank you very
much to those of you who supported PEP by attending, and to those of
you who could not attend but donated. And thank you especially to our
sponsors, our chefs who gave their time and efforts, and the Contra
Costa College Culinary Department, which generously offered their space
and time from their students.
January 2009Laughter and lumpia were plentiful at PEP’s
latest Comedy Jam! Hosted at Kenkoy’s Grill in Hayward, the January
24th, 2009, event featured the comedic talents of PEP teachers and
seasoned professionals alike. Meant to fundraise for PEP, support
local Filipino businesses, and provide a quality showcase for Filipino
American talent, the gathering was a tremendous success. Nearly 200
people from all over the Bay Area packed the restaurant, starting the
night with some great food and then ending with non-stop laughter.
Seemingly no topic emerged unscathed, including recently sworn-in
President Obama, riding the BART, relationships, the economy, visiting
the Philippines, and of course, growing up Filipino.
Performers
included Kevin Camia, Joey Guila, Allan Manalo, Jasper Pugao, Mike
Espinueva, Andrea Almario, Kat Evasco, Jay Marquez, Jayar Pugao, Aureen
Almario, and Aivy Cordova.
Thanks to Kristine Torres and the Torres Family, Herb digs, and PEP for this show. We hope to you at the next one!
